Altitude Illness In Colorado
Above 8000 feet, altitude illness affects 20 - 30% of visitors from low altitude environments. Symptoms of altitude illness include: irregular breathing (faster/deeper), shortness of breath, nausea, unusual tiredness, headaches, increased heart rate, and/or difficulty sleeping.
If symptoms are present or persistent, please seek medical attention. As you ascend to higher altitudes, atmospheric pressure decreases, the air is thinner, and less oxygen is available. The cure for altitude illness in almost every circumstance is oxygen.
At Summit O2 Systems we supply oxygen and oxygen equipment to help alleviate altitude illness and its symptoms. If you have previously experienced altitude illness, any of its symptoms, are a smoker, have emphysema, asthma, anemia, diabetes, or high blood pressure, please consult your doctor to obtain a prescription prior to arrival at high altitude. Summit O2 Systems Oxygen is available on a medical prescription basis only.
